PRESENTER: Dr. Michele Haiken
LOCATION: Over Zoom
DESCRIPTION:
Each coach will utilize one standing, recurring Zoom link (Virtual Office) for all three time blocks to allow educators to drop in seamlessly.
These virtual coaching sessions will provide CTE educators with targeted support for integrating effective literacy practices into career and technical education instruction. Participants will explore practical strategies for strengthening students’ reading, writing, vocabulary, communication, and comprehension skills within authentic CTE learning experiences. Coaching will focus on:
Content-Area Literacy: Apply literacy strategies that help students understand technical texts, industry terminology, procedures, and career-specific content.
Vocabulary Development: Strengthen students’ understanding and use of academic and industry-specific vocabulary.
Reading and Comprehension Strategies: Use practical approaches to help students analyze informational texts, technical documents, directions, and other workplace materials.
Writing and Communication: Incorporate writing, discussion, and professional communication activities that reinforce CTE content and career-readiness skills.
Instructional Coaching: Provide individualized support, reflection, and problem-solving based on educators’ classroom needs and program goals.
Planning for Implementation: Identify pre-made literacy micro-strategies educators can immediately integrate into upcoming CTE lessons and learning activities. Participants will leave with practical literacy strategies and an implementation plan for strengthening student comprehension, communication, and career readiness within their CTE classrooms.
