10/15/2026 - PD - CTE Fall Conference: Health Science & Agriculture – Improvement Planning and Resource Alignment

Site event
PRESENTER: Dr. Chris McGilvery, Perkins Coordinator LOCATION: East Central BOCES West Training Room DESCRIPTION: In-Person Only This professional development session will support Health Science and Agriculture CTE educators in implementing the 2026–2027 ECBOCES CTE Improvement Plan, with an emphasis on integrating evidence-based math, literacy, and science practices into CTE instruction. ECBOCES Math, Literacy, and Science Coaches will provide targeted professional learning and instructional support to help educators incorporate academic practices into authentic CTE lessons, projects, and career-connected learning experiences to strengthen student growth and achievement. CTE educators will collaborate with coaches to utilize pre-made 1-page micro-strategies that are relevant and practical for their individual programs. Participants will deploy these improvement strategies via the Digital Vault throughout the school year—eliminating narrative lesson planning—while identifying the resources, coaching, and instructional support needed for successful implementation. The session will also establish clear expectations for Checkbox Cover Sheets, surveys, and participation requirements. Educators will review the streamlined processes for documenting implementation via the Checkbox Cover Sheets and demonstrating 100% participation in required improvement plan activities. The session will focus on: • 2026–2027 CTE Improvement Plan Implementation: Review improvement plan goals, expectations, and priority areas and deploy pre-made, low-lift strategies for implementation within Health Science and Agriculture programs. • Math, Literacy, and Science Integration: Identify evidence-based practices for embedding academic skills into authentic CTE lessons, projects, and activities to support student achievement. • Instructional Coaching and Site Visits: Establish ongoing support from ECBOCES Math, Literacy, and Science coaches through coaching sessions, collaboration, classroom support, and site visits focused on implementation of improvement strategies. • Program-Specific Strategy Planning: Allow educators to identify and prioritize 1-page micro-strategies that align with the needs of their students, courses, and individual CTE programs. • Documentation, Compliance, and Participation: Review Checkbox Cover Sheets, surveys, timelines, and processes required to demonstrate implementation and 100% participation. • CTE Career Expo: Plan meaningful opportunities for students to engage with employers, explore high-demand careers, and connect classroom learning to Health Science and Agriculture career pathways. • Finance Park and Stock Market Challenge: Incorporate experiential financial literacy and business education opportunities that strengthen financial decision-making, applied math, problem-solving, and career-readiness skills. • Field Trips and Career Exploration: Plan industry-aligned experiences that expose students to workplaces, employers, postsecondary opportunities, and career pathways connected to their CTE programs. Participant Outcomes Participants will leave the session with a clear understanding of the 2026–2027 ECBOCES CTE Improvement Plan, selected pre-made strategies to implement within their programs, and an actionable plan for deploying math, literacy, and science practices into CTE instruction via the Digital Vault. Educators will also understand coaching and site-visit supports, required Checkbox Cover Sheets and surveys, participation expectations, and career-connected learning opportunities available throughout the school year. Lunch will be provided.
