Culturally and Linguistically Diverse AND Gifted Virtual Courses

WHAT  

  • Three 15-hour courses related to support of gifted and high potential CLD Students. Meets CLDE Recertification requirement!

WHEN and WHERE

  • Three 15-hour courses related to support of gifted and high potential CLD Students.

  • January 5th - May 15th, 2026 (You may register after Jan. 5th)

  • Self-Paced Online (resources sent Jan. 5th and upon receipt of payment)

COST

  • $75.00 per course (ECBOCES educators only will be reimbursed by AU upon completion for courses completed by May 15th)

Course Descriptions:

CLD & Gifted Level 1 - This course introduces educators to the unique characteristics and needs of high abilities students from diverse populations. You will investigate teaching strategies used to develop talent, multiple pathways to gifted identification and best practices for increasing cultural competence within schools and systems. Language acquisition, local data, and culturally fair assessment are added topics.

CLD & Gifted Level 2 - This course covers theories, concepts, and research regarding assessment, language acquisition, and literacy development. Authentic assessment, academic vocabulary, increasing rigor for CLD students, and simple differentiation strategies also included.

CLD and Gifted Level 3 - Educators will explore, plan for, and implement teaching strategies. Current practices will be adapted with the aim of building critical thinking and cognitive academic language proficiency (CALP) in students from diverse backgrounds. Educators will apply new knowledge through a case study or PD design.

Important:

  • Courses should be taken in order and will count towards the CLD re-licensure requirement.

  • Sign up only for levels you know you can finish this semester. This opportunity will be available over the summer but tuition will not roll over if coursework isn’t completed by May 15th. Reimbursements from ECBOCES for ECBOCES educators will only be available for courses completed by May 15th. 

  • Participants will receive 15 CEUs upon completion of each course.

  • Optional graduate credit available through ASU - $55.00 to be paid by participant, ASU link sent separately
