DATE: Tuesday, October 26, 2021
TIME: 4:15 - 5:15 P.M.
PRESENTER: Lori Cook
LOCATION: Over Zoom
DESCRIPTION:
Learning is a process, but often students mislabel struggle in mathematics as something that is wrong with them and assume that they aren’t good at math. Students are also impacted by cultural messages that the goal of mathematics is to get the correct answer and get it quickly, rather than deepen their understanding or skills, so learning feels like a continual performance rather than productive struggle. Join Lori Cook this year as she explores how teaching students the learning process, while engaging them in meaningful experiences, can change both mindsets and outcomes. We will:
· Define and deepen our own understanding of the learning process (surface, deep, transfer).
· Explore methods for making the process student-friendly and part of our everyday thinking and doing.

A stipend will be paid to all those attending this session.
