PRESENTER: Jamie Hurley, Ph.D. LOCATION: East Central BOCES West Training Room DESCRIPTION: This training will provide educators with a clear understanding of the difference between health concepts and skills, explores the characteristics of effective health education, and identify strengths and opportunities for implementing Colorado’s Comprehensive Health Education Standards. Participants will engage in practical strategies to enhance instruction, promote student well-being, and align teaching practices with state expectations. Session Objectives: Participants will be able to: Explore health concepts and skills based health education Identify the characteristics of effective health education and instruction practices Identify health education standards and opportunities for implementing the standards BIO Jamie Hurley, Ph.D., has served as the Content Specialist for Health and Physical Education at the Colorado Department of Education for the past six years. He oversees the development and implementation of comprehensive health and physical education standards, instructional best practices, supports whole child efforts, and provides guidance on comprehensive health education, vaping prevention, and student wellness grants. Jamie is currently guiding a committee to address mental health and social media and developing lessons based on indigenous Native American games for the Ute tribes. Before his tenure at CDE, Jamie was a Health Education Consultant at RMC Health, contributing to health skill models and training for the CDC's Health Education Curriculum Analysis Tool. He has also worked as an athletic trainer and middle school health educator and was a member of the SHAPE America Health Education Standards Revision Committee. Jamie is an avid runner, outdoor enthusiast, and has lived in Colorado for 24 years with his wife, a K-12 educator, and their four children.
