DATE: Thursday, June 9, 2022
TIME: 9:00 A.M. - 3:00 P.M.
PRESENTER: Isaac Wells
LOCATION: East Central BOCES West Training Room
DESCRIPTION:
Elementary educators will join Isaac Wells to explore and incorporate strategies and tasks for surface, deep, and transfer of learning within their literacy instruction. We will focus on writing and reading because of their importance across all content and disciplines. Participants will engage in and reflect on specific tasks and strategies, including reciprocal teaching, so they feel comfortable leading them in the classroom. The group will discuss how to deepen students’ engagement in the formative assessment process along the way.

Teachers who specialize in areas outside of English language arts such as the sciences, arts, or vocational courses will learn to apply the same thinking and strategies to their students’ experiences without sacrificing the key objectives of their standards.

Educators will be able to:
• Describe surface, deep, and transfer of learning
• Plan tasks and strategies for various levels of learning
• Explain and facilitate specific learning strategies (including reciprocal teaching)
• Engage students in the formative assessment process

Lunch will be provided and stipend paid to those attending.
