DESCRIPTION:
English language acquisition in young children will be discussed: Supports and strategies for second language acquisition, ways to build word consciousness, how to encourage parents to continue to develop the first language at home. The WIDA Early Years Can DO Descriptors and Performance definitions for ages 2.5-5.5 will be presented in order to build an understanding of typical language acquisition. The Can DO Descriptors to help support the language needs of preschool children will be discussed. Through this presentation, it is hoped that you will be better able to identify stages of language acquisition, strategies to support language acquisition, and how to support families.
Dinner will be provided so you need to register so that we have an accurate count for food and materials.
