Oregon schools struggle to reach P.E. targets
Oregon elementary-school students on average got only 12 minutes of physical education in the 2007-08 school year, despite a legislative target of a half-hour daily, according to a state report. Only 4% of Oregon elementary schools met the target; officials said they have too few gyms and gym teachers to offer more P.E. time, especially during this era of increased emphasis on reading and math.  Oregonian (Portland), The (3/11)
